Athlete turned entertainment mogul, Kenyon Glover, chats film x fashion x tv projects

We all probably heard of the saying that the more expertise and talents that you possess in different areas, the more marketable you are in the workforce. This still tends to be very true. Some of us may also have hidden talents embedded in us that we have yet to unleash and sometimes it takes a certain/random occasion that helps us to release our God given talents that we never knew we had. This is similar to how Kenyon Glover unveiled his passion and talent for acting.

For those who are unfamiliar with Kenyon he is a philanthropist and multi-talented entrepreneur. He was born in Monroe, Louisiana in 1982 and is the oldest of three siblings. Growing up he was taught excellent discipline skills by his placements in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kickboxing, which he earned a Black Belt level. He later found a love for basketball at the age of seven, played during his high school years where he was highly recruited by several colleges from around the country, upon that selection he chose to go to the University of Maine. He continued to play basketball and went on to graduate with a Bachelors in 2002. Upon graduation he started playing professional basketball in England, recognized for his skills was then picked up by the Milwaukee Bucks.

After suffering a knee injury after just three months with the Bucks, he felt devastated and unsure of his future and he even contemplated suicide; however, a strong believer in his faith, he began to explore other life ventures. This led him to currently having a career in acting, modeling, and being a business owner. He runs his own businesses under KG Entertainment, which is the umbrella company to the subsidiary companies of KGXperience and Kenyon Glover Film Productions, with a publishing deal with Hartford Publishing.

KGXperience covers his business of health and fitness not excluding personal training, youth basketball camps and nutrition coaching.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Glover over the phone. Scoop the interview below.

What was your experience like in being able to play with the Milwaukee Bucks?

It was like a dream come true. Of course every basketball player and athlete dreams of playing on the highest level possible. I was extremely blessed. The organization treated me well and took care of me a long with the rest of the players. When you make it to that level it’s one of those things that every kid dreams of. It’s one of those experiences that I will never take for granted. I learned so much, and it helped me to grow up as a man. I met some great people and had some great teammates.

Awesome! I know that you are also an actor. What projects have you been involved in?

I’ve been in quite a few projects. I started out in the Young and The Restless. I was on there for quite awhile where I played the detective. I was also on Criminal Minds, Boston Legal, NCIS, CSI, The Game, Lets Stay Together. I’ve done a lot of independent films and Netflix films. I also started to produce my own projects under my own film production company.

What projects are you currently working on under your company?

I am currently producing two TV pilots. One is called “The Lead of the Distinctive Gentleman” which we start filming this summer. I am also working on a TV pilot called “DETRIX THE SERIES”which is a sci-fi, action martial arts TV series. I am also getting ready to shoot a film called “It’s a Dirty Game”, which is a basketball movie. Of course I had to a basketball movie I couldn’t pass that opportunity up. We start shooting that in the early Fall.

How did you get into acting and producing?

After basketball was over I kind of stumbled into it by accident. It came about two years after basketball was over. I was mostly doing modeling and doing quite well and traveling all over the world modeling for different companies such as Nike and Reebok. I actually went to an acting class with a friend of mine who was into acting and I just so happened to be with him that day. When he went to his class I was just going to sit in the back while he did his thing, but the acting coach asked me to participate because she was short a student that day so I filled in. Then I was like, “wow this is kind if cool” and I kind of liked it and playing a different character other than myself. It was interesting so I wanted to know more about and take it more seriously so I signed up for the acting class myself and I started taking it every week. Before I knew it I was hooked and had caught the acting bug and ever since then It was like “I want to do this as a career and for the rest of my life.” I started getting better at it and booking different projects.

Wonderful! So you are also the founder for the Georgia Peach Fashion Week. What inspired you to start that?

I moved here to Atlanta from California about a year ago and when I moved here I was used to modeling on certain levels. I was used to modeling at high caliber of shows like LA Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, Miami Fashion Week, and Paris Fashion Week. I was used to being on that kind of level. When I moved here to Atlanta I seen that they were not doing anything on that level. Every show just looked cheap looking and I was kind of disgusted with what they were doing out here. So I took it in my own hands to put on a production that I’m used to and that Atlanta probably has never seen before. I’m going to show that same talent from New York Fashion Week and bring it to Atlanta. So that is what inspired me to start Georgia Peach Fashion Week.

What are the goals for you and your businesses between now and the next year?

To begin to expand. I want to expand my companies worldwide. I want to expand my businesses to each and every state and overseas. I want to be worldwide. I want to be global for my production company, for my fitness company. For GA Peach fashion week, I want to take it to different cities, of course I’ll have to change the name, but I want to do it in cities that are not used to things like this and have never experienced anything like this before in their city. I want to be able to inspire and encourage people and be like “look you can do this too. it’s just a matter of putting in the work to do it.”

What is one unknown fact that people do not know about you?

Um wow..haha. I would say my temper. I have a very quick and bad temper. I get angry very quick and I kind of go overboard when I get angry and it’s kind of uncontrollable, so I’m learning to compose myself.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time when you get the spare time?

When I do have that time, I like to sleep. It’s something that I rarely get to do, so when I do get that opportunity to have a little downtime I just like to sleep.

What advice do you have for rising entrepreneurs and actors?

You cannot give up. I know it’s said so many times and it’s just part of reality. You can’t give up when things get tough. You’re going to have that feeling of wanting to give up and throw in the towel because it’s too much or too hard, but I feel that each and every person, if you really dig deep inside yourself and your soul, you can keep going. Nothing is going to be given to you. You have to go out and get it. You have to want it. You have to go out and take it and continue to work hard. People are going to see your work ethic, determination, dedication, so you just have to stay with it and not give up ever.

Any last comments that you want to reader our readers with?

If anyone ever as any questions or any advice that they want to ask me, I’m always open to helping people out. I just love to inspire and motivate people and give people advice. I’ve been around the industry for a minute and I feel that I can give people good advice. I seen a lot of different situations, and I don’t think there’s really nothing that I haven’t experienced or that I don’t have knowledge in. I feel that I can pretty much give you any advice or suggestions of what to do or what not to do.
