Here are 5 ways to Practice Active Listening
1. Pay Attention: Best way to achieve that is by maintaining eye contact and watching body language. Non verbal communication is just as important.
2. Don’t interrupt. It’s rude and you can’t listen if you’re so busy trying to tell your own story or thinking of what to say next. Be in the moment don’t rush people.
3. Try not to judge. You can’t listen for an understanding if you are so busy criticizing. When you jump to conclusions you miss out on your opportunity to learn.
4. Clarify. It’s okay to ask questions so you can understand further. It’s not okay to constantly ask someone to repeat themselves because you keep getting distracted.
5. Paraphrase and summarize. Repeating what the person says shows you were paying attention. Don’t be a parrot about it but add your take to show you understand…or you don’t. 🤷🏾♀️
