Our culture is made of many dynamics. We are spiritual yet soulful so when the two are blended together, it creates an atmosphere that transforms, inspires and uplifts. This is what we got during the Jill Scott and Erykah Badu battle this past Saturday.
But we can’t really call it a battle. It was more of two sistahs of the African Diaspora coming together to share an experience. That experience being Art. Art within music.
Due to both ladies being iconic and of two different dynamics, it was too hard to try and choose a side. It was all about the experience. Throughout the nearly two hour Instagram Live, the ladies showed nothing but the upmost respect to each other. Yes, Erykah took a few jabs at Jill for being emotional, but it was more in that jokingly sisterly way.
With over 700,000 people tuning in, it was definitely what the community needed in the times such as these within the Coronavirus pandemic. The experience was a moment for us to forget about the current state of the world and to just be. It helped us to get back in touch with ourselves; that is what good music does to you.
If there were any of the younger generation watching, you know that under 30 crew, hopefully they were able to see the dynamics of two creative artists coming together to uplift and unite the community.
If you missed it, watch some snippets of the show above.
