Kelly Rowland Inspires Us to Bring That Black Girl Magic and Embrace Our Sexuality in Latest Video

By Naomi Bonman / May 6, 2020 / CULTURE, SELF-AWARENESS / 0 Comments

As Black women, we haven’t always embraced our sexuality, confidently. There has always been a sense of not wanting to be judged or looked at a certain way. Society has a way of making Black women think of themselves in standards that are lower than we should have.

But things have been shifting, and it’s a good shift! More influencers and celebrities are ensuring that we start realizing our worth, such as Kelly Rowland in her latest single and video, “COFFEE”.

“To me, COFFEE is about embracing your individuality, sexuality, or imperfections,” Rowland states. “Not comparing yourself to others. We need to celebrate ourselves more often — with this song, I want you to have yourself in mind. I want to remind women all over to reignite their magic!”

The lyrics definitely hit home.

Coffee & sex in the morning

Breakfast in bed, got me moanin

Before you go to work (I need you to go to work)

Pardon my sincerity

You know I’m a rare-ity

My love be your therapy

All around remedy Baby, who instead of me

The lyrics in COFFEE are like that expression of a woman letting her man know what likes, what she wants, and that she desires all of him. Men have never had the problem of letting us know how they feel and what they want when it comes to intimate encounters.

Now finally things are shifting and more women are realizing that the intimate part of the relationship is a natural and needed element to balance everything out. It’s no longer a ‘taboo’ topic. We all have needs and want to be pleased.

If you’re loving the song, you can stream it here.
