Macy’s Celebrates Black History Month with Jurnee Smollett-Bell x Monica in Baldwin Hills
About a week in a half ago I had the pleasure of attending a Macy’s Celebrates discussion for Black History Month with Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Monica. It was definitely a night of empowerment. Talk about a great way to celebrate Black History Month.
Each year Macy’s celebrates Black History with a tour of a panel of discussions from inspirational leaders within the entertainment industry. I had the pleasure of attending the discussion at Macy’s Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza in Los Angeles where R-n-B vocalistMonica and actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell were present. The ladies answered a series of questions on what made them proud to be Black, who besides themselves did they feel were also a prominent force in their industries, and how they stay balanced within their career.
In reference to one of the questions asked, I loved the statement that Monica mentioned when she stated that she was IN the industry, but she is not OF the industry! In the entertainment industry, especially when it comes to music, you have to stay grounded because it will suck you in and then spit you back out like you never existed if you are not grounded in your Faith.
After the Q & A, we all received a sneak peak of Jurnee’s latest Television series, “Underground” which premieres Wednesday, March 2. She also gave us each exclusive invites to the private screening. After that the floor was open to a few questions from the audience before the meet and greet.
Stay tuned in a few days for the recorded Q & A session. Sign-up on our email list below to get updates when the interview is available.
