Nationwide Campaign, #everyBODYvisible, Campaigns to Stop Shadow Banning Across Social Platforms

Social media is powerful. That is evident. It has become so powerful that small businesses generate their monthly revenues from it. This is how they get their brands and messages across; however, there is an epidemic out there that is hurting small businesses, especially businesses within the entertainment, health, beauty and media industries.

The epidemic is known as shadow banning. So what is shadow banning and how is it effecting the community at large? Shadow banning is the act of blocking or partially blocking a user or their content from an online community, such that it will not be readily apparent to the user that they have been banned.

The #everyBODYvisible campaign is working diligently to put a stop to shadow banning. When our bodies, our selves, our passions, our work and our lives are hidden or deleted because they “may not meet community guidelines” we are shamed and silenced.

However, on the flip side, a man or well-known celebrity can post the same type of content, yet they WILL NOT get shadow banned. So being “different” or “average” gets you banished? This message is dangerous to our youth. And this is why the team at #everyBODYvisible is challenging it, together.

I recently interviewed two of the founders, AnneMarie Davies and Nikki St. John, where they chatted more on the campaign, how you can get involved and why it is NEEDED in the community.
