Nigerian-American Actress, Esosa E, Chats On One-Woman Play Debut, Journey of Veganism

Before Cleopatra, Nefertiti, or Joan of Arc…there was Hatshepsut. The renowned one-woman international play, The Woman Who Would Be King,was presented on the Millennium Stage at John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts at the beginning of the month to a packed house and standing room only crowd of over 350 attendees! The show made it’s world premiere last year in Cape Town, South Africa and then had it’s U.S. début at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art in March 2017.

The Woman Who Would Be King, is a fictional one-woman play written and performed by globe-trotting Nigerian-American actress and producer, Esosa E.

This one woman play is inspired by the life of Hatshepsut and Esosa embodied eleven characters to bring to life her fascinating journey to the throne. Research into Egyptian history sees Hatshepsut regarded as one of the most successful Pharaohs, reigning longer than any other woman of an Egyptian dynasty.

Esosa E. is a globe-trotting, award winning Actress, Producer, Health Expert, and Fashion Designer who was called an “Afro-Renaissance Woman,” by the Weekend Argus and was featured in The Root’s List of “10 African Artists and Entrepreneurs You Should Know.” She is most known for playing the role of Ngozi in the international hit web and TV series An African City (featured on the BBC, New York Times, NPR, CNN, EBONY, ELLE, Glamour Magazine, Forbes Africa and many more. Outside of acting, Esosa is the creator of the health blog Raw Girl in a Toxic World, which has inspired and transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of readers worldwide. She has also authored several books including: Got Veg? How to Thrive on a Plant-Based Diet.
