Poetry Corner: America’s Ugly Face
This Country’s Pledge of Allegiance to Liberty & Justice for all…
No matter how big or tall,
We’re beaten, handcuffed and thrown behind prison walls.
The history of my ancestors,
Leading back to whips & chains,
Stories known to be an unbearable pain.
America’s built on injustice to the Black man.
We learn the rules & know the drill,
Even with our backs turned, hands in the air,
We’re still shot down & killed.
This Country’s claim to freedom,
It’s a horrific disgrace.
Justice a bitter after taste,
So police we look in the face and mustn’t feel safe.
To us justice & equality is known to just be a debate.
