Poetry Corner: GeorgeTown Press
A time we were Black America’s team before Hakeem was the dream,
In D.C where Patrick Ewing smacked these blocks.
Then crack took over the scene,
Destroyed communities with the triple beam,
John Thompson told Edmunds stay away from my team playing with those rocks.
Allen Iverson the new chosen son,
Hard work was an afterthought,
A mean crossover would gloss over his NBA run.
Showing up to practice you would have better luck finding a four leaf clover,
Don’t A.I me,
But blessings he made it out from the Newport projects to own a house.
