Poetry Corner: I Have A lot To Say

Growing up young in the hood we had to teach ourselves history,

My favorite historians shouted by any means necessary,

And Black power my favorite phrases.

It taught me say what I want to say,

So “Grandma they’re going to have to kill me I’m not their slave.”

Against the grain trust me it’s not that easy staying plain,

Ducking and dodging the drug and prison life they pave.

Yea, I’m taking a knee with Colin Kaepernick,

Fuck the police,

I will never salute or respect this so called country of the brave.
