Poetry Corner: Nothing Was The Same
What is it to be Black in America? I say be prepared to be hunted and gunned down like predators.
As a youth my eyes were like everyone else’s, blinded by the very elusive fortune and fame.
I was an athlete celebrated for talents, never my academics, back then I couldn’t see the balance.
I used to cut classes trying to avoid labels like geek, and the now common term lame I was ignorant just couldn’t escape the mind frame.
Always benevolent now a humble educated man willing to stumble I speak my mind never again will I mumble.
I started learning an educated people cannot be tamed from that day forward, “Nothing Was The Same.”
