Poetry Corner: Senseless Violence

When it rains it pours like the tears falling from a crying mothers face as she sees the body of her son laying in the streets face cold from his soul already departed this earth.

Mother beating on the hard felt asphalt with cries to the lord screaming “why lord why, not m baby boy.

The streets are filled with flashin’ red and blue lights as neighbors begin to come out their houses to see the aftermath of the event.

They talk amongst each other as they look on with looks of not disbelief, but thoughts of discomfort as the tragedy hits close to home.

Mother still in the streets still clenching to her baby as paramedics try to fit him for that black vinyl bag.

The streets are no longer filled with flashing lights and neighbors standing outside, but silence fills the night as the clouds hides the moons reflection.

Blood soaks into the ground inside chalk lines where a man once laid.

A mother lies in the bed once slept in by her son.

There are no words that will be able to mend this broken mother’s heart as she closes her eyes and cries herself to sleep the headline on the news flashes “Senseless Violence.”
