Poetry Corner: Strange Fruit Even Stranger Times
Instead of recognizing me as king,
You rather abolish me,
Reminiscing the scene from Amistad shouting,
“Give us us free.”
In the beginning we dangle from trees,
Now its police committing murder, videotaped in the streets.
You got smart using mass media television, radio, and music,
to cause the deceit in us.
Yea we’re free from shackles but you’re still leading us.
We keep sleeping blinded to the fact you’re defeating us.
I’m not afraid to be heard or seen,
Maybe the next leader or martyr killed for “American” treason.
A strong people killed without reason,
Can’t you see injustice has me questioning what trust is?
