
Poetry Corner: The Light in Her Fight
He approached her with a blatant disrespect.
An arrogance and ignorance she could not receive,
As he stood there attempting to strip her of all dignity.
A black beauty who had arisen from the ashes of depression to embrace the journey to live and embark on a new career.
Her life was halted due to racial injustice and fear of her intellect and self-respect.
They sought to dim her light,
That still in her absence shines so bright.
Even in death her presence and fight for our rights illuminates the dark forces of this life.
Hatred has not deceased, so we shall fight on.
To our Sister Sandra Blandmay you rest in eternal peace.
