Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story
It was my sophomore year of college, not an activist thought in my mind other than high school model Congress, to that point I was blind to the hooded robed racism of America.
Growing up in 21st century South Jersey to a single mother who worked hard to provide and do everything to shield us from the negativity of the outside world, I was taught to know right from wrong, respect my elders and to obey the law and police officers until then I did.
Up to that point, I guess I never really thought it could happen to me or believe anyone blatantly without the proper justice and do diligence being served. I guess that day to myself, as well as the millennial generation, this was our wake up call in sorts the modern day Emmett Till, the birth of our Civil Rights Movement “BlackLivesMatter”.
For maybe the first time in the younger half of the generations, life we experienced and now see hot the American Legal System failed us and purposely fixed the prosecution and trial to be railroaded.
With Jay-Z’s production of this trial we got to see every underhanded trick and scheme used to criminalize Trayvon and until this day him or his family have not received proper justice. To say the least, we should expect an indictment of the detectives, judge, prosecution and defense team hired because foul play was very heavily involved in this case.
From this misfortune we have awoken America and a new generation of activist has arrived, but also the blue print to sweep unjustified murder of African-Americans as we continue to see and receive this unjust treatment and execution.
