San Bernardino model discusses role in upcoming independent city film
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down in a in depth one on one interview with model, actress, and co-star of the upcoming independent film Dino. Jordan Yvette discussed her role in the movie, her career aspirations, and her hobbies. Dino is an upcoming movie that reflects the lifestyle of an individual living the street life in San Bernardino, California.
As a model and an actress what do you feel you bring to a character that many people would feel represents the negative statistics of black women in America?
I’m not going to say Trina is a negative character. They just put her in a negative situation. People look at the negative before the positive.
What do you hope to accomplish with your role in the movie?
I hope to accomplish more opportunities and achievements with this role. Everything about this movie is powerful.
How do you feel Dino reflects on the actual lifestyle and struggles of people trying to make it out of the inner city?
The movie reflects on a lot of gang and drug violence. It’s the actual lifestyle of people struggling in the inner city today. I witnessed it growing up in San Bernardino.
What do you feel like keeps characters like Dino from escaping the street life?
In my opinion, I think once you accept that lifestyle you become comfortable with it. It’s hard to break your own habits.
What experiences have you had that have helped you prepare for your career as an actress and a model?
Practice is the main thing. I attended quite a few acting classes and did a lot of improv. Modeling is something that comes natural to me. I did plenty of shoots and I just get better and better each time.
How do you feel black women should be portrayed on screen?
I believe black women should be portrayed in a more positive way when it comes to entertainment. They rather show the struggle and the hard times of a black woman before anything else.
How do you relate personally with the character of Trina?
Me and my character Trina relate in so many ways, but personally because she’s loyal and down to earth. I come alive when it comes to performing my character.
How old are you?
I am 19 years old.
Where are you from?
I am from San Bernardino, CA
What do you hope to get accomplished in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years I hope to accomplish more goals and way more opportunities with my career such as more movies, photo shoots and maybe my own clothing line.
What other projects are you looking forward to working on in 2015?
Currently I’m working on a full calendar, which will be released 2016 so stay tuned. You will see me a lot more often this year. I’ll be doing more events, movies and so much more.
