Straddling Fences
Moca,
I really don’t know where to start; I mean I never thought it would be this hard to have a career and a relationship. The reality has set in and I’m having a difficult time trying to find balance. On one hand, I’m completely driven to achieve my dreams. Then on the other hand, I’m emotionally suffering from lack of companionship. Do I want my cake and eat it to or is this balance of personal and professional really obtainable?
Straddling Fences, (Dallas, TX)
First off, I never really liked that little saying, ‘you can’t have your cake and eat it to.’ I mean, who gets cake and doesn’t eat it? So, with that being said the simple answer to your question is YES, you can balance personal and professional. It’s probably NOT going to be as easy as eating cake BUT still doable. If I had to give you a step action it would go as follows:
Step 1: Make it WORK for YOU…This means get organized, create time for personal activities. Set aside a few hours, a whole day, or even a week, to do just the things you personally like to do. Relationships require quality time, you have to put forth the effort, so just clear your calendar and make it WORK for both of YOU.
Step 2: TALK that TALK…This means communicate. Technology is widespread these days so there’s really no reason why you can’t communicate with each other. There’s the ‘old fashion’ phone call (lol), text, email, Skype, and even social networks. Any type of relationship thrives off of communication, if you are comfortable with your partner to freely discuss the relationship and every detail within then you are on the right path. Keeping the lines of communication open allows both of you the ability to TALK that TALK.
Step 3: MOTIVATED MOVES…This means support each other’s dreams. Encourage moves toward the ultimately reality of success in their passion. I’m sure you have heard the term ‘POWER COUPLE,’ well that’s exactly the type of relationship that works for those driven to achieve. There is nothing like the feeling of your significant other showing genuine interest in things that make you happy. That MOTIVATION MOVES the relationship to success. It allows both people room to grow personally and professionally with the help of each other.
Now this all sounds good in black and white but the reality is it can be difficult to achieve. I say if you want it, work toward it, you can have it. So, tear down your fence, ‘straddling fences,’ and make room for both your personal and professional. It all boils down to what’s important to you, LIVE OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!
