Usher’s new EP might be ‘Hard II Love’
Those of who grew up to 80s and 90s music get excited when our favorite 90s icon makes a comeback in this new era. Some of them are still able to bring it, but then for others they seem to have ‘changed’ and not for for the better. This is how I’m feeling after listening to Usher’s new EP Hard II Love, and the title can’t be anymore than perfect. If you are accustomed to and loved the Usher that we all grew up on then the new album will probably be hard for you to love it.
His latest single “No Limit” featuring Slim Thug is on there and is just about the only hit on the album other than “Bump.” The majority of the songs all sound the same from the ballads to the up beat songs, which is very typical of today’s top radio hits—there’s no differentiation. In my personal opinion, that poppy-techno like music is NOT music, it’s just noise. This is one of the top disappointments with the new Usher song. Yes he is gaining new fans, but he may be losing his longevity fans. His older fans that grew up with him; that related to him on a more personal level.
Now I still have love for Usher, but I can’t listen to Hard II Love without skipping over practically every song, just end back to “No Limit.” Can we just have the “Nice & Slow” and”You Make Wanna” Usher back!?! Even the newer songs like “Crash” was cool, but the songs after that it’s like Usher is trying to fit in with what this new generation likes and it’s just not him.
