Waying My Odds
Hey Moca,
So, I met this guy and on the surface he seems cool and put together. He opens doors, pulls out chairs, asks about my day, pays attention to me and so forth. Basically, I have only one complaint…he admits he’s a ‘momma’s boy’. Now, because I’ve never had to deal with this issue before, I thought why not ask others what they think. From the few times we’ve been out and talked he’s referred to his mother several times. She has actually called in the middle of some of our dates. (he answers) And according to him they talk EVERYDAY. So my question is, ‘What are the pros and cons of dating a momma’s boy?’ Should I move forward in this relationship?

Waying My Odds,
Let me start by saying if it is the desire of your heart to be in a committed relationship with a guy that possess the qualities you listed, then God will provide. Wait. With that being said, nobody is perfect and deciding what flaws you can deal with is half the battle. I think dating a ‘momma’s boy’ does have its advantages, aside from the ones you mentioned. They tend to pay more attention to a woman’s emotions. They actually listen tentatively and are able to have a conversation about something other than sex and sports.
In essence most ‘momma’s boys’ know how to treat a woman. But such is life there are some negatives that come along with a ‘momma’s boy’. The most obvious one is detachment or the lack there of. For whatever reason it has been proven difficult for some of these guys to truly separate from their beloved mothers. I mean not a days passes or a decision made without consulting mom. This type of behavior can be problematic. Especially if your in a serious relationship or married. The bible says, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his MOTHER and hold fast to his WIFE, and THEY shall become ONE flesh. Genesis 2:18, 21-24. If he finds it difficult to separate your relationship from that of his mother, I only have one thing to say…..”Molly, you in danger girl!!!!!” Now, as I stated earlier, if it is the desire of your heart to be with a man that possess those listed qualities, God will provide. Wait. And if ‘momma’s boy’ is the one for you….TRUST….you will know.
