What to Watch: No More Wings

Abraham Adeyemi’s directorial debut No More Wings shares the story of two lifelong friends from South London who meet at a divergent point in their lives, this topical film touches on both shattered dreams and success. This innovative festival will feature programming from 20 top film festivals including the Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival and Venice Film Festival.

No More Wings is a nostalgic love letter to Adeyemi’s adolescence. It explores the significance of community, gentrifications impact on it and whether decisions of the past have lifelong consequences.

Abraham Adeyemi is an award-winning writer-director and playwright, hailing from South London. He graduated in Creative Writing from Birkbeck University of London, followed by completing the prestigious Royal Court’s Writers Group. His works for stage have played at a number of prestigious British theatres and his previous shorts have screened at International Film Festivals. In 2019, he was a winner of Soho House’s global screenwriting competition Script House, subsequently receiving funding to make his winning short film script No More Wings.

Most recently, his directorial debut No More Wings received the Best Narrative Short Award at the Oscar-qualifying Tribeca Film Festival, 2020.

Producer Abiola Rufai-Awojide joined the BFI Network as a Coordinator, where she currently works to find and nurture emerging filmmaking talent. Prior to this she worked in commissioning as Off-Screen Talent Coordinator for Channel 4 UK. Abiola’s earlier work as producer includes Closure directed by Koby Adom, which was screened at the BFI Future Film Festival and was selected for a number of festivals.

The online festival is set to run from May 29-June 7, 2020, and will be available at youtube.com/weareone.
