You Had Me at Black and The Woodshaw Bring Docuseries ‘NATAL’ to Bring Awareness to Pregnancy

To bring more awareness to this issue, over the last few months, You Had Me At Black, in collaboration with The Woodshaw, will be premiering the docuseries NATAL. NATAL will explore different stories about having a baby while Black in the United States.

So why did they make a whole series on Black maternal or perinatal health?

As stated briefly above, Black women are three to four times more likely to die from complications with pregnancy or childbirth. And while there’s less research about their experiences, individual anecdotes detail a unique set of challenges and dangers for our trans and non-binary family.

But beyond the stats and soundbites are real people with stories to share. NATAL passes the mic to Black parents to tell their stories in their own words (what else would you expect?!). You’ll also hear from the birthworkers, medical professionals and advocates who fight every day, for better care for Black parents and babies.

NATAL premieres Wednesday, April 22, 2020 wherever you listen to podcasts. They will also playback episodes on You Had Me at Black on Thursdays. Until then, here’s a sneak peak of what you can expect.
