You Had Me At Black, While Black Podcast Bring Exclusive Storytelling Series to Get Us Through COVID

You Had Me at Black is back! And they have partnered with another popular Black podcast, While Black, to get us through this pandemic. We have been quarantine due to the dreaded Coronavirus for just about two months. Our lives have been on a brief pause while everyone plans their next moves. This downtime has been extremely instrumental for creators because it has given us that much needed time to not only create more, but to reflect, rebrand, and redefine our missions and core values.

In these uncertain times and period of reflection, it’s always the perfect time to turn to what we as a culture know best—-storytelling. Storytelling has been embedded in the African Diaspora for decades—since slavery. Stories get us through the good times and the bad times. Stories make us. Stories are us.

The two popular podcasts, You Had Me At Black and While Black have collaborated to bring a new series called “At the House”.

“You Had Me at Black has always been about sharing Black stories. Stories have served so many purposes in our community throughout history – it’s how we’ve preserved and passed down history and how we’ve entertained. And when our stories are met with an affirming community, the process of sharing can be healing. We wanted to bring that same energy to “At the House.”Martina Abrahams Ilunga, Creator, Editor-in-Chief of You Had Me At Black.

In each episode, You Had Me at Black will publish short stories submitted by their audience about a particular topic. Immediately following, While Black will feature an expert diving deeper into the topic and delivering actionable information during these uncertain times.

You Had Me at Black connects Black people around the world, one story at a time. Their mission is to reclaim the Black narrative by passing a mic to regular people to share their true-life stories in their own words. The podcast has been downloaded over half-a-million times, and Indie Wire named one of their episodes a top 50 episode of the year.

“If we are as committed to the Black community as we proclaim to be, then how could we in good faith not be there to service them through one of most unsure times in recent history?

While Black owes every single listener everything because without them we would be nothing. We are of the community, and therefore owe the community.” -While Black Podcast
While Black is a podcast hyper-focused on life in this country While Black. They use expert guests to counter the current socio-political environment and racial narrative by investing in and empowering Black People. Launched in July 2018, While Black has been downloaded over half-a-million times, and Bustle named them a Top Podcast.
